Beware the hidden resort fee when you book your Las Vegas tour package. You may think you've scored a great deal with your air and hotel package. But wait for the big surprise when you actually check into the hotel.
Last November, I booked into Monte Carlo Hotel in Vegas and was presented with the following fee. They called it a resort fee and for that you get the use of the gym, a free paper, two bottles of water and free copies or was it free faxes at the Business Center. The resort fee was $10 per day and it was added to every room, even if you don't use the gym or read the paper.
But get this, I decided to make use of the gym and got a tour. It was nicely set up and I noted one locker was open and there was a robe hanging in there. When I asked about the logistics of the locker and the lock, they advised that a locker and a shower is $5 extra. Okay.
As for the paper, it was a USA Today but you will have to get a copy near the elevator before they are all gone. The early bird gets the worm or the late night gambler does. Seems like the paper is delivered around 2am. Tough luck if you wake up late. No paper for you today.
The bottom line - I don't mind a resort fee but tell us about it before we check in.
